A Signature Design with A Signature Turf
Old Corkscrew, southwest Florida's first stand alone Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, is complete with Celebration Bermudagrass on all nineteen holes - including the driving range.
A Jack Nicklaus signature design, Old Corkscrew Golf Course, was officially opened February 23, 2006. It is located in Estero, FL, which is right outside of Fort Myers. Old Corkscrew is a par 72 layout created to be both challenging and enjoyable to play while enhancing the environment with the nature surrounding it. The course is lined with a mixture of mature oak, pine and cypress trees and is covered with Celebration Bermudagrass, except in the tee boxes and greens.
"Celebration holds a deep green color and has a good shade and drought tolerance," said Chris Hughes, Golf Course Superintendent at Old Corkscrew, describing why they chose to use Celebrated Bermudagrass on this course. "It also has years of research to back up its excellence."
The Celebration used for the project came from Glenn Zakany, a part owner of Old Corkscrew Golf Course and G to Z Turf Services, a company servicing the sale and installation of Celebration Bermudagrass.
Jack Nicklaus is well-known not only for his 20 major championships, but also for more than three decades of golf course design. "Nicklaus, his sons' and son-in-law represent Nicklaus Design a team of the world's most accomplished golf course design associates, agronomists, industry consultants, and experts in golf course construction and marketing," Nicklaus Design Web site.
