In a tough market for bermudagrass, Celebration is on the rise

It is difficult to introduce a new product, especially in Brazil where income is low and rarely spent on turfgrass. When consumers do buy turfgrass, bermudagrass is not the top choice because it is thought to be too much work. However, Celebration BermudagrassTM is proving itself to Brazil with its drought tolerance, wear tolerance and quick recovery rate.

Celebration against 419 on society soccer field.

Claudiney Kolachinski, owner of Grameira Sao Matheus, a Celebration producer in Curitiba, produces with no irrigation; and without a marketing team of his own, promotes Celebration very well using banners and pamphlets. This marketing helped Valmor Ossener, owner of VPR Sports, find a solution to the difficult upkeep of Tifway 419 on his nine society soccer fields.

These society fields are for recreation play and get a lot of traffic. With 419, Ossener found the maintenance was hard to keep up with, he had to overseed each year and the green was completely off color in the winter months. He was very excited to hear about Celebration, especially knowing he didn't have to overseed with it. Originally, Ossener chose to only replace the center stripe of one field and ended up loving its true green color and ability to handle traffic better.

Since the original trial, three society fields have had the center stripe replaced with Celebration and in the next few months, Ossener will replace the center stripe on three more fields. He plans to fully replace all nine fields with Celebration in the future, starting with three of them in Brazil's fall.

Roberto Gurgel, executive director of research for Sod Solutions, traveled to Brazil in June to visit Celebration producers and to see locations where Celebration is being used such as these society soccer fields. He found it to be very encouraging to see Celebration gaining more space throughout Brazil and in locations where Celebration is being used; it is being so well enjoyed.
