Pedestrian, playground and sports sites call for durable, resilient and appealing selections. The “right” turfgrasses for these demanding applications must withstand frequent foot traffic – or even daily athletic play – and they should recover quickly from damage while remaining visually and tactically appealing. As importantly, the most viable turfgrasses can also be successfully maintained on restricted budgets.

Three Sod Solutions varieties are ideal for a wide range of park, recreation and/or sports field applications:

Celebration Bermudagrass RacetrackCelebration Bermudagrass – This fine textured bermuda makes a great first impression, with its unique blue-green color and fine bladed appearance. However, it is lower maintenance needs and very high performance qualities that have kept Celebration in play on baseball fields, soccer fields, polo fields, and even on race tracks.

EMPIRE Turf – This versatile grass is a standout in municipal parks, playgrounds, and commercial areas. EMPIRE’s lush green color and softer zoysiagrass texture make it visually appealing. However, it is EMPIRE’s improved weed, insect and disease resistance, as well as its lower needs for water and other inputs that make it most viable for the long-term. As one landscape manager for a large residential/commercial development said: “I fell in love with the look and then I was really impressed with the performance.”

Bella Bluegrass - The worBella for Parks / Sportsld's first and only dwarf vegetative bluegrass, Bella repairs and regrows from rhizomes making it perfect for parks and sports high traffic applications.  Bella is a dwarf variety, only growing to approx. 4 inches in height.

Geo Zoysia - A fine-bladed turfgrass with a knack for handling the wear and tear of heavy foot traffic.  Perfect for parks and sports, Geo is able to handle a good amount of shade while providing for an ultra-soft textured feel.

Palmetto St. Augustine - One of the most shade tolerant warm season turfgrasses around, Palmetto has been a staple in park settings since the early 90's.  Perfect for shaded walkways and thoroughfares, Palmetto provides a lush, green enviroment for outdoor activities.

Sapphire St. Augustine - Ability to quickly recover from damage makes Sapphire a perfect fit for parks and playgrounds.  Sapphire has a beautiful blue-green appearance and truly lives up to its moniker, "A Lawn to Live On."

Captiva St. Augustine - As the only St. Augustine with resistance to the dreaded Southern Chinch Bug and with slow vertical growth, Captiva comes with advantages that makes the jobs of park facilities managers that much easier.  Captiva features a darker color than most St. Augustine varieties and wont need as much mowing.  It has shown excellent shade tolerance as well.

Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass (RPR) - Developed by Barenbrug USA, is a ryegrass with a unique regenerating feature that makes it extremely wear and traffic tolerant; ideal for parks, playgrounds and sportsfields.  It features good resistance to insects and disease, making life easier for grounds maintenance crews!
